Yes, I am a UFC fan

Sexy MMA Fighter GSPThis may not seem like a likely post for a site about sex, but let me assure you, it has everything to do with sexy guys!  I know, most hot bodies associated with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) are the ”ring girls” like Rachel Leah, and don’t get me wrong, those chicks are hot, but I’m here to put the spotlight on the guys – the fighters – the main event, baby!  Now, that’s not the only reason I’m into the UFC, but it’s one of them!  With UFC 83 coming up, I thought this would be a great time to post about the sexy guys of the UFC – and dang, there are tons of them!  Seriously, there could be a whole website devoted to just the hot bodies of the UFC!  I could go into the other reasons why I like this sport, but I’ll give you more details on that towards the end of my post – for those of you that really want to know.

Other than that, suffice it to say that the UFC athletes are some of the best trained, most in shape, ripped dudes out there!  All you have to do is look up photos of:  George St. Pierre, Tito Ortiz (yes, the boyfriend of porn star Jenna Jameson), Chuck Liddell, and Rampage Jackson – to name just a very few.  Ladies, please trust me and get past the “fight” thing, and just look at those gorgeous bodies!  Dang!  I know that because there’s wrestling involved, many of the UFC guys have that “cauliflower ears” thing going on, which is not exactly the epitome of attractive, but c’mon just look at the bodies.  And fortunately there are plenty of these guys that have both a sexy face and body.  Personally, I think George St. Pierre (pictured here) is one of the hottest UFC fighters (and guys, period) out there!  Not only does he have a completely ripped body, he’s got that ruggedly handsome face, gorgeous blue eyes, and who can resist that French-Canadian accent…..OMG, I’m weak just thinking about him!  (And I’m not the kind of gal that gets all weak thinking about guys!  LOL)  My mind wanders back to an amazing photo shoot in Maxim magazine during the holidays (2007) where some of the guys  from the UFC (including St. Pierre) donned formal wear for one kick-ass photo shoot!  Honestly, those guys were the best of both worlds: strong, rugged, bad-ass, and yet handsome, dashing, and every bit the gentleman.  I don’t know what genius came up with that concept, but I hope to see more.  Give me more, Maxim!

Anyway, on Saturday George St. Pierre (GSP, as we fans call him) will be fighting for a title belt in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and I for one will be rooting for him with all my heart (and other parts….he he…)  I don’t expect you to go right out and buy the Pay Per View, let alone the insanely priced tickets for the fight, but at least check out some pics of the guys online.  You owe it to yourself.  You will not find a finer example of the male body – anywhere!

And for those of you that want to know why a peace-loving, vegetarian, sexually confident, 40-something, happily married, mom would be into the UFC, here goes.  I didn’t initially get it either.  But due to a friendship, my hubby and I were invited to check out some of the fights here in town a couple years ago – just before it got totally huge.  Around the same time we started watching the reality show, Ultimate Fighter.  I learned about what goes on behind the scenes of training for the UFC.  My “layman” explanation is this.  It’s a combination of three types of fighting:  martial arts, boxing, and wrestling, and is also referred to as MMA (Mixed Martial Arts.)  It is not fake.  It is not a “bar fight” in a cage.  It has rules, a code of conduct, and adheres to the requirements of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.  It requires the most rigorous, insane, challenging work-outs and training programs known to humankind.  Yes, there is punching and kicking.  Yes, there can be blood – but not always.  And one of the most important factors (at least for me) is that this is consensual.  These guys have trained to fight.  They want to fight.  They understand the risks, and the rewards.  And again, in my “amateur” opinion, because it heavily involves martial arts, it carries with it a similar philosophy.  Martial arts is not just about fighting.  It’s about integrity, heart, spirit, mental strength, and respect (for others and for self.)  It goes beyond the spectacle of so many other types of “fighting” out there.  It is true to it’s name:  “As real as it gets.”  I know there are folks that prefer the fake stuff, but call me crazy – if I’m gonna watch a fight, it better be f-ing real.  Why watch a glorified soap opera-esque, scripted, staged, choreographed, fight?  I’d prefer it to be a true test of the core strength of each individual.  I suppose it’s ironic (and probably lost on most folks) that what attracts me to the UFC, is in fact the mental/spiritual aspect.  It has everything to do with who is most centered, most calm, most focused, and who has been most consistent in their preparation.  There is a depth that most folks can’t or don’t care to understand.  And although it’s unlikely that many UFC fans are going to read this, I would hope I do it justice, just the same.

Anyway, that’s my tribute to the UFC, and the hot guys that represent what is in my opinion, one of the greatest sports out there today.  So, you can picture me on Saturday evening, beer in hand, cheering and yelling in my living room, just like “one of the guys”.
